Some Fall Appliance Maintenance for the East Valley Homeowner
Is the refrigerator making more noise of late? Or are you putting off the inevitable and dreading when the washer gives up on you? You would be better off entering the holidays with your appliances in good order and no headaches to speak of.
We have been at it since 2004, helping homeowners in the area put in some preventative care. The family at Appliance Super Techs (you may know us as East Valley Super Techs) is an Arizona concern and very much part of this community. Give us a ring at (480) 462-7668.
With the worst of the summer heat in the rearview and the prospect of all that holiday cooking and entertaining before you, fall is the season to tend to your appliances. A bit of upkeep can preclude a major breakdown. We offer these suggestions to our neighbours in Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley and further out.
A Fall Reset for Your Refrigerator
The unit has had to work hard all summer to put the cold in your food come triple-digit days. With the weather cooling down, you should check on it.
You might want to:
- Put in some time vacuuming the condenser coils of any dust or pet hair
- See if there are any cracks in the door seals for cold air to get out
- Do a wipe down inside and put away what has expired
- Verify the fridge is level for the doors to shut right
- Put an ear to it for rattling or clicking
Should you hear something amiss or find it cannot hold its temperature, do not put it off. It is only a matter of time before a small thing becomes a large one at an inconvenient hour.
Oven and Stove: Getting Ready for the Holidays
Your oven will be under more strain at Thanksgiving and over the winter than at any other point in the year. We see more than our share of calls for ovens with uneven heating or uncooperative burners.
Before the big days of cooking, put in a few minutes to see how things are:
- Hand clean the interior or run a self-clean
- Make sure every stovetop burner will light and heat as it should
- Confirm the oven is reading true to the setting
- Have a look at the door gasket
- Get the grease from around the vents and burners
If it is running hot or cold, or you are having to wait an age for it to preheat, let a technician have a look at it rather than risk it when you have a house full of people.
Take Care of the Washer and Dryer
Being specialists in Speed Queen and Alliance laundry equipment we are familiar with these machines. Heavier blankets and clothes will be coming out of storage so it makes sense to do some maintenance in the fall.
Do not forget to:
- Check the dryer vent and give the lint trap a thorough cleaning
- Look for any bulges or leaks in the washer hoses
- Wipe the drum and seal on the washer to stave off odours
- Level them to avoid too much vibration
- For a front-load washer, an empty hot cycle will freshen it up
One of the easiest oversights is a clogged dryer vent which is a fire hazard as well as a performance issue; make it part of your routine.
Dishwasher
All those holiday dishes will put the dishwasher through its paces. Clear out residue with a cleaning cycle, see to the filter and make sure the spray arms are not clogged. Cloudy dishes or poor draining are telling you it needs some attention.
When to Put in a Call
There is some of this you can do on your own but when trouble is evident you want someone with the knowledge to handle it.
